DO. WHAT. MAKES. YOU. HAPPY.
Listen, I used to be into all that new year, new you – ‘hooray, let’s slay’ sh*t.
…but yeah, not anymore. I’m more into not giving a DAMN what anyone thinks of me and the way I’m choosing to live my life. Free will is my God-given right and honey, you ain’t taking it from me.
I have been a people pleaser for my entire life. It has drained every ounce of energy from my body and honestly, during 2019-2020, the F-word was my absolute favorite word, and crying in the bathtub was my jam – it felt so good to just let it all out.
I would sit in my car, take a deep breath, and scream as loud as I could. I’d go home, get in the bathtub, and cry until there were no tears left. It felt amazing.
Now, with that being said, I know I have a great life. I know there are people far worse off than I have ever been even at the lowest point in my life. I get that.
But… we all have lows. We all have difficult decisions to make. Many of us have jobs that drain us, people that suck every ounce of energy from our bodies, not to mention the adult things that can’t wait until tomorrow – bills, cleaning, parenting, work, etc.
SO – Do what makes you happy. Choose just one thing that you love and make it a priority. Fit it into your day or at least into your week; schedule it if you need to.
For me, it’s meditation and yoga.
I take 20-30 minutes at least 5 days each week to stretch, do yoga, and meditate. I don’t listen to music or have YouTube or the TV on in the background. This is my quiet time. My time to go within, take deep breaths, and find peace.
